Dormia Memory Foam Mattress, Natural Latex Mattress, Pillows, Sleep AccessoriesGetting a better night’s rest goes far beyond just buying a mattress that supports your body perfectly. The science behind sleep is aimed mostly towards providing support to the body’s pressure points and joints, keeping the neck and spine aligned as if you were standing up straight. A crucial aspect of getting uninterrupted sleep is the positioning of your head throughout the night. The angle and position of your head during sleep can have a profound impact on the quality of your sleep. Let’s take a look at why that is.

Pillows come in an array of sizes and shapes, some meant for décor, others meant to support your head and neck properly, and a majority are standard manufactured pillows that may cost a little less. Depending on your sleep position, different pillows may feel more comfortable than others. Now keep in mind, the pillow’s main purpose is to support your neck, aligning it straight with your spine. If your pillow is too large and dense, it may prop your head forward. Sleeping with your head tilted forward or sideways can obstruct the airways if you are a side sleeper. The most common reason for snoring is a blockage or obstruction of the airways. Lack of oxygen can wake you during the night, prompting a shift in your sleep position. A stiff neck or sore back may also be a result of the misalignment of the neck and spine. If your pillow is too small or soft, the same ailments can occur during the night due to the neck and spine being angled in the opposite direction.

Cleanliness of your pillow is also vital, not only for the longevity of it, but also for your sleep quality. You may not have allergies to any of the materials used to manufacture the pillow, but over time dirt and spores will accumulate, increasing allergic symptoms that can impede on your sleep. Following the manufacturer’s suggested care instructions can increase the lifespan of your pillow. Most of today’s pillows are machine washable, so make sure to wash and clean your pillows regularly!

Is your pillow natural or synthetic? The material used in your pillow will make a difference. Synthetic fills are polyester based and are often times firmer than natural fills, which usually contain a feather or down material. When deciding between natural or synthetic, take into account any allergies you may have as well as the density that is most comfortable for you.

Your pillow is as important to the quality of your sleep as your mattress is, so make sure you carefully select a pillow that will properly support your head and neck. Here at Dormia, we understand how vital getting a good night’s sleep is, which is why we use only the highest quality materials to ensure you get
